The Huntress has returned to crime fighting in her own six-issue mini-series. Character co-creator Paul Levitz has also made a comeback to pen the new story. It might be hard for some to keep up with what version of the Huntress we're getting in this new mini-series. The quick answer is Modern Age Huntress Helena Bertinelli.
"Huntress" #1 continues Bertinelli's adventures as the crime-fighter as she "takes a trip to Naples, Italy, and uncovers a human trafficking and gun-smuggling ring that only scratches the surface of Mafioso activity." The subject of human trafficking is very timely and gives the story a contemporary feel.
Writer Paul Levitz makes a triumphant return to the world of his creation the Huntress. "Huntress" #1 is packed full of action and intrigue. He re-introduces us to Helena very quickly and wastes no time in having the Huntress start reaching into her bag of tricks, which include her acrobatic fighting expertise and crossbow skills.
Penciller Marcus To does an impressive job of bringing Levitz's character and script to life for "Huntress" #1. His style is stemmed in realism and keeps the reader flipping pages to see what's coming next. There are plenty of examples of art suitable for framing thanks to John Dell's inking of To's work.
This first issue of "Huntress's" six-part mini-series shows a lot of promise. Batman Family fans will want to pick up the book for sure. I encourage those who haven't made themselves familiar with the Huntress character to try it as well.
