Hurricane Alex Hits Mexico

Hurricane Alex Expected to Cause Heavy Rainfall

Gary OCallaghan
Hurricane Alex rolled into northeast Mexico ( a category 2 hurricane) about 160 miles southwest of Brownsville, Texas, dumping sheets of rain which are expected to cause flash flooding and mud slides. Rainfall amouts of 10-20 inches can be expected in the Atlantic basin near Soto La Marina. South Texas, from Corpus Christi to Laredo can also expect up to six inches of rain, putting a damper on fourth of July celebrations.

The counter-clockwise swirling of the storm is pulling moisture off of the gulf and is causing unstable air as far north as Dallas. This unstable system will create clouds and thunderstorms throughout North Texas and put an end to the sizzling heat that a near record month of June provided to the Dallas area (thank god).

Expect scattered storms in North Texas throughout the 4Th of July weekend and enjoy the conditions while they last.
