Hurricane Charlie

Friday the 13th August 2004

There once was a mean old guy Charley,
From out of the Keys came he snarly,
First Tampa Bay headed,
So greatly we dreaded.
His wind blown and stormy self gnarly.

Decided our great city Fathers,
A plan unlike all of the others,
To evacuate early,
Our loved ones so dearly.
To places most safe above waters.

Areas purple and blue and then green,
From the maps shown on each TV screen.
All mobile home parks,
Must each to embark,
For locations more safe and serene.

To the highways all round Tampa Bay.
Folks headed out far and away.
Leaving their homes
Into cars all alone.
Hoping soon to come back in a day.

On the morning of Friday 13th
Old Charley had a special treat.
He'd turn right away,
Instead of the Bay,
Punta Gorda decided he'd beat.

With winds of 140 miles per hour,
On land so complete would he scour.
Without any regard,
The big old blowhard,
Homes and trailer parks did he devour.

Our GOP Governor named Bush,
Who's life till now had been so cush,
Went to survey the damage,
Declared it a rampage,
Price goughers warned he would ambush.

We're here now back in Tampa Bay.
To old Charley we've one thing to say.
So glad us you bypassed,
And don't try to come back.
Far out in the oceans please stay.
