Hurricane Earl says, "Surf's up, Williamsburg."
Neighborhood: Williamsburg
Brooklyn, NY 11221
United States of America
As Hurricane Earl heads for the East Coast, something else is brewing in Brooklyn. Doesn't look like the Labor Day weekend for "Williams-surfers" (hipsters from Williamsburg who have added surfing to their annual hipster Olympics repertoire) will be ruined, after all. They'll be hitting the waves.

Watch them trade in those ironic T-shirts for some board shorts!

No one really knows how close Earl will come to land, but it's the biggest storm to come this way since 1991, when Hurricane Bob made his presence known. But we know one thing, the gusty winds and elevated waves (some already measured up to 30 feet high just outside Earl's eye) will make for some really radical waves.

Though plenty of airlines are projecting canceled flights and plenty of delays, one thing is for certain - most of Williamsburg will be out at Rockaway Beach with their Brooklyn beach bunnies in tow, searching for that perfect wave.
