Hurricane evacuation rentals are found under 'vacation homes' in all parts of the country. Many vacation homes allow pets to stay with the family, and come with locking garages for that fully packed vehicle to sit in.
To find a hurricane evacuation rentals vacation listing that allows pets, go to a vacation planning Web site such as ArrangeYourVacation.com or others in that industry. Vacation planning sites run ad boards that allow private home owners to advertise their property for rent online. Type the name of the town that you would like to stay at into the sites search box and then review information and pictures of the houses available to rent.
The vacation listings that can be used for hurricane evacuation rentals will have houses that rent by the night, or by the week. Prices for a normal 4 bedroom home will run from about 100.00 per night on up with pets involved. Prices will depend upon how many luxuries are included.
General information about using vacation homes as hurricane evacuation rentals:
~ All vacation houses are completely furnished in the same manner as a motel room. There will be linens on the beds, towels in the bathroom, and often a washer and dryer sitting there for personal use if you would like to wash clothing.
~ All vacation houses come with a completely equipped kitchen that often includes a dishwasher to keep the provided pots, pans, and dishes clean. For people choosing these hurricane evacuation rentals, this is an ideal situation. Money can be saved by cooking at home, and there's no reason to waste precious traveling space on dishes.
~ Many of the homes come with multiple televisions that often include gaming systems for the children. It is also not unusual to find rental houses that have a bedroom especially designed for the children with colorful decorations and toys. Baby equipment is available for the asking from some of the private rental home owners.
~ It is not unusual for more than one family to share a vacation house that is used for hurricane evacuation rentals lodging. When friends stay together, the 100.00 or more a night cost can be shared. This often results in these rentals being cheaper than motels.
Pet information for those using vacation homes as hurricane evacuation rentals:
~ Hurricane evacuation pets should travel with carriers that are well marked with their name, a copy of shot records, and emergency phone numbers for you, the vet, and a friend attached to the side. This way if the pets become separated for any reason, the pound will know that they belong to somebody who wants them back. Emergency phone numbers should also be attached to the animal collars.
~ Many of these private property owners will require that your pets have shot records and flea bath certificates available. Before arriving to check-in to your hurricane evacuation rentals situation with a pet, have photocopies of all records available for the owners records. Flea-baths and vet records are required so that your animal does not catch anything unhealthy from the last animals that stayed there. It is a nice system.

Post a CommentGreat article! We don't have hurricanes in Indiana but we do have tornadoes, and we don't get much warning like with hurricanes! If I couldn't evacuate with my dogs, I probably wouldn't go.
Wonderful article! Many people who refused to evacuate New Orleans did so bc the officials cruelly refused to take the pets as well. I was SO happy to see that they had corrected this error when they evacuated for Gustav.
