Storm Could Hit Coast Tuesday

Just when residents of Gulf Shores, Alabama were thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas a hurricane forms out of what seems to be nowhere.

According to the National Hurricane Center what was tropical storm Ida is now a category one hurricane. As of early Sunday morning hurricane Ida had winds of 90 miles per hour. The storm is moving northwest at about twelve miles per hour. The storm could end up being a categoy two storm by Sunday evening. Given this direction and speed the storm could hit the Gulf Coast of the United States early Tuesday.

Fourty people died due to the hurricane in El Salvador according to the website nowpublic.com. The storm created heavy wind and rain in El Salvador.

A hurricane watch has been issued from Grand Isle, MS to the Mississippi-Alabama state line. The storm is expected to weaken once it arrives in the Gulf of Mexico due to the water temperature. As of Sunday the water temperature in the Gulf of Mexico is on average is 68 degrees. If this storm would have occured two months ago the Gulf Coast could already have mass evacuations underway. Water temperature is everything when it comes to the strength of hurricanes.

In Alabama and Florida on this Sunday Hurricane Ida has not been the lead story on any of the local newscasts. The average person on the street may not know that a hurricane and or a tropical storm is headed straight for their state.

As the National Weather Service has begun to issue more watches and issued more press releases more and more news agencies are taking notice. Even though the storm is predicted to significantly weaken when it hits the Gulf Coast of the United State emergency management officials are concerned.

Mother nature is not something that can be predicted. Ida is not predicted to be a major storm but given unseen weather events of the past experts says it's always best to be prepared for the worst.
