Hurricane Katrina Will Never Be Forgotten

We Can Never Forget!

Atlanta Page
It's hard to believe that just 5 short years ago, a category 5 hurricane ripped through the Gulf killing over 1800 people. This is truly one of the worst hurricanes I have ever witnessed via television, and news reports. I remember watching on the news as they were wondering if this storm would slow down, if they should evacuate parts of Louisiana. I remember they were so hopeful up to the very last minute but everything changed so fast.

I remember being glued to the TV as this massive storm grew and grew over 9 hours to be a category 5 monster. By the time they told everyone to get out, it was too late. I kept praying for those stuck on the roads, which were too few to let this massive exodus flow out of Katrina's way.

Chills still run up my spine when I remember the events of this fateful day although we were relieved it lessened to a category 3 before hitting land in the early morning hours of August 29th. Technically this was the second landfall, it had previously hit Forida at only a category 1. I think this is why everyone hesitated to get out. Maybe it would not be so bad, and I'm sure no one wanted to be considered overboard or causing undue panic.

I wish they had. 1836 confirmed dead is too many to think about.

I am hearing things about how this was a man made tragedy in New Orleans. That they built the levies on sand. This is very sad to me, that so many lives could have been saved had they paid attention in Sunday School.

My mind is drawn to a passage in Matthew 7:21-27. Let's read it together then we can talk about what it says.

21) "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord,Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22) Many will say to me in that day, Lord,Lord, have we not prophesied in they name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works?

23)And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24) Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25) And the rain descended and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not for it was founded upon a rock.

26.) And every one that heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man which build his house upon the sand:
27) And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it."

If you will build your life on the rock Jesus Christ himself, you will be solid against the devil who wished to devour you. When the rains fall, when the floods come, when the winds blow, you will not be moved.

Matthew 7:13-14 says, "Enter ye in at the straight gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

You may say , "I don't want to live that kind of life, maybe God will just look at all the good and bad I have done and after He sees that I have done allot good, he will let me in" My friend, Jesus said, " I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the father but by me." I do hope you will reconsider such a foolish thought.

These who were sleeping or getting ready for work or school, didn't realize their levy was going to fall down and that they would lose their life.

You must be anchored in Jesus Christ. "For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." as the Holy Bible says in John 3:16.

There's no need for you to perish. No need for you to die in your sins. "Wherefore, as by one man, sin entered into the world and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" Romans 5:12 "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous."Romans 5:19 Jesus is the one who came in obedience to die for your sins in your place.

I hope you will take these words and ponder over them in your heart. "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" Matthew 16:26.

I love you friend, and God loves you too!
