Hyatt Regency Maui Hotel: A Pleasant Stay

Amy Knowse
Hotels can be a pleasure to experience, but the Hyatt Regency Maui went beyond all my expectations, from its opulent lobby and inspiring wildlife preserve to its first-rate shops all the way to the comfort and convenience of the accommodations in which we slept.

As we checked in to the Hyatt we loved what we saw; an endless array of fabulous plants (some in bloom), restaurant and shop descriptions for our ease, talking parrots and other exotic birds, helpful desk and valet people along with gorgeous décor all around us. We arrived in our room tired from our trip but the gentle helpfulness of the employees around us helped us unwind and take a real look at our surroundings. The room was lovely in all aspects but the bed was incredible with a hundred down pillows (well, maybe not a hundred) and a king size down comforter with a duvet causing me to instantly fall asleep and get my "starter nap."

I remember breakfast on the lanai that next morning. The waiter arrived with his tray after which he placed a crisp linen tablecloth and napkins and silver place settings on the outside lanai table along with a vase of fresh flowers. Next came our breakfast and we were left alone to feast on the food and on the scenery all around the hotel grounds below. Stunning is a word adequate to describe the ambiance of the vast span of green and palm trees, and for me, flowers-everywhere. I was in heaven.

The Hyatt boasts its' Spa Moana and one of our favorite experiences during the entire trip was our tandem massage under cabanas on the beach. We noticed the Hyatt is the only hotel that does the beach side massages. It was unforgettable.

The swimming pool was huge with a number of waterfalls and a bar beneath the waterfall in the area separating the adult area from the greatest children's pool I have seen. The children's pool was decked out with hundreds of plants but it also included a walkway to rival the one we see in our imaginations with wooden floorboards and rope side handles. This play area was a dream come true for children with lots of water toys, games and employees to supervise. What more could a child (or parent) wish for?

Sadly, our last evening in Paradise arrived. We were on our way to attend the hotel luau called "Drums of the Pacific" and what a memorable evening it was indeed. Again, we were greeted with helpful servers and the food served was delicious. The show was exciting to say the least; there was even a man who could eat fire! In fact, I even learned the hula! All who visit the island should attend a luau; it is unlike anything we have on the mainland. We will always remember our fabulous days and nights at the Hyatt Regency Maui.
