Car Manufacturer's Warranties
Different car manufacturers offer different lifespan of hybrid car batteries. For some manufacturers, they approximately give eight years warranty or even longer. Just like the manufacturer Toyota, they usually give a warranty of eight years/100,000 - mile warranty. While on the other hand, the competitor manufacturer, Honda offers only eight years/80,000 - mile warranty on their manufactured hybrid car battery.
Southern California Edison test
The battery provider Southern California Edison (SCE) had announced in 2008 of its demonstration of a lithium-ion battery. It has 180,000 - mile lifespan. Not only that, a very minimal wear and tear over the space of less than three years has been guaranteed. This has been verified by trying the battery in a commercial delivery van, and the result shows that the said battery was only one-sixth of the average - sized battery used in hybrid cars. Due to this result, U.S. Department of Energy gave SCE with a regular-sized lithium ion car battery to be tested on a passenger car. Lithium ion or Li-ion batteries are vital because they have higher energy density than any other type. It only means that lithium ion batteries holds more energy by weight, or by volume compared to any other variety.
Replacement
Another concern about these hybrid car batteries are its replacement. Hybrid vehicles are still relatively new. This makes these batteries to be more expensive and hard to come by.
Advantage
In addition to the fuel efficiency and proven reduction of air pollution, these hybrid car batteries have longer warranties compared to gasoline car batteries. Normally, a non-hybrid car battery needs to be replaced every three to four years.
Future
Lots of hybrid car batteries are now becoming more accessible as a consequence of irreversible damage being done to the rest of vehicular accidents. As these hybrid cars are becoming available everywhere and added study is conducted, it has been predicted that these hybrid car batteries' lifespan will have a greater accuracy.
