Hybrid Cars -A Green Piece of Eco-Friendly Technology

Shaw Belt
Although many of the people who now purchase hybrid cars do so for a number of personal reasons, until recently hybrid cars have been associated with the stereotypical, "tree hugger". These "green" people have been laughed at more often than not for their tendency to protest animal fur, wear hemp and drive ancient, Volkswagen-made vehicles. However, it may be these environmentalists who have the last laugh, as hybrid vehicles are not only aiding in their earth-friendly objectives, but have gained the respect of the very people who once thought cars powered by electricity were best left in the toy department.

Now, with all the choices available in hybrid car models, most conventional drivers are left to scratch their heads in confusion while those who have been driving hybrids for years, zip by as fast their electric powered engines can sustain the speed. Fortunately, for those who have not been as informed about the world of hybrid technology and alternative fuels, hybrid makers offer a plethora of information by which to get educated and make an informed decision when purchasing a hybrid bar.

There are a few basic things to know when comparing a hybrid car to a conventional car. First of all, they are better for the environment. Hybrid people already know this, but now they can prove it. Hybrid cars have been shown to decrease harmful emissions by up to almost 90% of the same emissions from conventional cars. This rate may be increased even more through the use of a diesel hybrid, which can use biodiesel fuels in place of traditional diesel. However, don't expect that many die-hard green people will tell you this, but a biodiesel fuel is sometimes made from animal fat, the consumption of which is generally forbidden by any animal-friendly, long-term hybrid drivers. These models only account for about one percent of the cars driven in North America.

Another basic fact of hybrid cars is that they are better on gas, much better. With gas prices alternately fluctuating and consequently rising, having a car that will get almost fifty percent more per gallon than a conventional car is reason enough to tell die hard traditionalists, "don't worry, be happy, for me." It not only means fewer trips to the pumps, but also filling a smaller tank that won't use nearly as much gas. Losing good money at the pump is no laughing matter, but saving money is.

Keep in mind that a hybrid car will not accelerate as quickly as a conventional car. This will probably be something of a nuisance until the enlightened state of mind becomes more familiar to the formerly traditional mind. However expect that other, less enlightened drivers will probably tailgate, flash their lights and weave from side to side to try to see a way around as the pedal in the hybrid car is put to the metal and the car begins to slowly hit an acceptable cruising speed.
