Make-up artists, estheticians, homeopaths and many dermatologists agree that the more natural the products you use on your skin, the better your skin will respond. Three of nature's best cures for dry, irritated skin are honey, oatmeal, and yogurt. The combination of the three, not only sounds like a delicious breakfast, but also makes for a highly moisturizing and healing skin treatment.
Honey not only has a bounty of curative properties which make it an excellent antibacterial and antiviral remedy, it is also intensely moisturizing and healing for dried out and tired skin. Like honey, oatmeal is chock full of healing agents that have been used for centuries to heal irritated skin due to eczema, dehydration, and a myriad of other rashes and skin conditions. It is also a wonderful exfoliator when ground into a fine pulp. Last, but not least, yogurt is a super food both for body and face. Yogurt contains zinc, calcium, a wide range of B vitamins and probiotics which help to nourish, repair and soothe skin leaving it smooth and supple.
One of the easiest and most effective ways to use honey, oatmeal and yogurt to soothe your dry and irritated skin is to make a face mask or facial paste with the three ingredients. Making this mask is extremely easy and chances are you already have the ingredients in your home.
All you will need is half a cup of dry oatmeal, three tablespoons of honey, and a quarter cup of plain yogurt. If organic yogurt and oatmeal are readily available to you , then by all means make it your top choice. Organic products will not have any harmful pesticide residue, hormones or antibiotics in it which can be toxic to your skin and body in general.
After gathering your ingredients, you will want to grind the oatmeal into a fine consistency in a blender then place the oatmeal powder in a bowl. Slowly add in the yogurt and the honey mixing them well until there are no lumps and you have made a nice, thick paste. You can use this right away or put it in the fridge for later use. When you are ready to use your mask, simply massage it into your face and particularly into areas that may be more dried out then others for extra hydration and comfort. Leave the mask on for ten to fifteen minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Since this mask is all natural, you can use it as often as you need.
When the cold, harsh winds of winter pick up, or if your skin is just generally dry and irritated, turn to the natural healing properties of oatmeal, honey and yogurt to comfort, soothe and moisturize your skin. The healthy glow you will get will give you a year round boost of self-confidence that is priceless.
