One company I am specifically interested in is Hydrogen Technology Applications, Inc. based out of Clearwater, Florida. There is a buzz on the internet saying they have invented a contraption that you can easily fit on your car enabling it to be hydrogen powered. The end result is that your car would basically run on water that converts to hydrogen. This has not been officially verified but I certainly hope that it is true. It would be much easier to convert to hydrogen fuel and keep the same car you already have. I went to the website at Hydrogen Technology Applications, Inc. and they do say that they will be offering a hydrogen vehicle system but do not give much detail. They state that it will not be available until 2008 and request no emails for information on it until that time. Apparently, they have been overwhelmed by requests for more information.
In President Bush's State of the Union Address he proclaimed, "With a new national commitment ...the first car driven by a child born today could be powered by hydrogen, and pollution-free. Join me in this important innovation to make our air significantly cleaner, and our country much less dependent on foreign sources of energy." On January 28, 2003. According to the US Department of Energy we have been funding billions of dollars into the hydrogen fuel initiative each year. HFI Budget.
According to the United States Department of energy, "Hydrogen and fuel cells have the potential to solve several major challenges facing America today: dependence on petroleum imports, poor air quality, and greenhouse gas emissions. The Hydrogen, Fuel Cells & Infrastructure Technologies Program is working with partners to accelerate the development and successful market introduction of these technologies."
Hydrogen technology will revolutionize our world. We do not have to rely on other countries to supply this fuel. In addition, it has almost no emissions and will be much better for our environment. The transition is already starting to take place, in 2004 the hydrogen car company sold the first commercially available hydrogen car. Other car manufactures are starting to follow this trend. As they perfect the use of hydrogen it will become much less expensive and more common to see them on the road. They have even made hummer hydrogen vehicles! I am looking forward to this new technology.
