The popular diet pill, Hydroxycut has been recalled after reports of liver problems.

The FDA has issued a statement regarding the safety of Hydroxycut "Although the liver damage appears to be relatively rare, FDA believes consumers should not be exposed to unnecessary risk." Over the last 7 years the FDA has received 23 reports of people who took Hydroxycut having serious liver problems. The FDA says over 9 million bottles of the herbal supplement were sold in 2008.

The Hydroxycut ingredients claim to be natural. The key ingredients are Garcinia cambogia extract, chromium polynicotinate and Gymnema sylvestre extract. The bottle promises Hydroxycut increases energy, burns calories and control appetite. Many other popular diet drugs share some of the same ingredients. All consumers should keep informed to make sure other diet drugs they may be taking do not get recalled.

All Hydroxycut products have now been recalled. The recalled products include Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets, Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets, Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Capsules, Hydroxycut Max Liquid Capsules, Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets, Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets, Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix), Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets, Hydroxycut Liquid Shots, Hydroxycut Hardcore RTDs (Ready-to-Drink), Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed, Hydroxycut 24, Hydroxycut Carb Control and Hydroxycut Natural.

If you are taking any Hydroxycut products, the FDA recommends you stop using it immediately. You can get a full refund by returning your bottle to the place of purchase. You can call the makers of Hydroxycut at 1-877-468-2835. If you are interested in more information visit the Hydroxycut website here.

In 2004, the popular diet supplement ephedra, also called Ma huang, was recalled by the FDA. Ephedra was in most popular over the counter diet drugs prior to the recall. Metabolife, Ripped Fuel and Hydroxycut all contained ephedra before the 2004 ban. The Baltimore Oriles pitcher, Steve Bechler died from side effects from ephedra. Ephedra caused heart related problems in some people. Many dieters disregarded the FDA ban and ordered ephedra illegally over the internet.

I recently purchased a bottle of Hydroxycut but, I stopped using it after a few days. The pills made me feel very agitated. I will now return by $30 of Hydroxycut to Walmart and get my money back. The latest recall reminds us all that even natural ingredients can occasionally cause harm.
