Hypocritical Politicians: Will it Ever End?

Antigay Lawmaker Gets Arrested After Leaving a Gay Bar

California's senator has been arrested for driving under the influence Wednesday morning. That's not even the worst (or most amusing) part about the situation at all. Senator Ashburn had been pulled over after leaving a gay bar in Sacramento with another man! You may be wondering how this happens, right?

Ashburn was pulled over at around two am by state highway patrol because he was swerving his vehicle (a Chevy Tahoe!) on the road. He had been arrested with no problem and the man that was with him was not detained. The Senator, however, did not get off Scot free. He was charged with two seemingly redundant charges driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol level of at least .08 percent.

Now that we've got the facts out of the way we should talk about who he portrays himself to be. He has a married father of four and has been on the forefront in regards to the anti-gay movement. Ashburn has a long record of voting against any strides gays had made towards having the same rights as heterosexuals. He supported Proposition 8 and he even voted against creating Harvey Milk Day three times.

Politicians that claim to be against homosexuality and gay rights yet end up being homosexual themselves have been literally pouring out of the woodwork. Ever since Jim McGreevey came out and stepped down from being the fifty second Governor of New Jersey it seems that more politicians are being caught with men.

What they do in reaction to being caught is one of the most infuriating part of all of this outside of their blatant hypocrisy. More often than not these politicians offer apologies to their state, wives, and children for their "bad decision making". They fight so hard to bring the gays down while all along they continue to fall to their deeply seeded inclinations. Sneaking around and having their extra marital affairs with men while claiming to be against it all along?

There needs to be a point where everyone just becomes honest with who they are and who they love. Building lives around lies is a sure fire way to fail in the end. If these politicians are going to be happier in homosexual relationships, embrace it. This homophobia and clear disregard for human rights isn't going to end without these people realizing the truth. Why not just prevent the problem in the first place? And if the politicians that are in the closet do feel the need to stay there for whatever reasons they have why do they have to fight so hard against the movement? Why not drop out of the voting process or just vote for the progress of other people's love and happiness?
