Hytrin: Agent for Hypertension

Sue Ellen K.
Many individuals suffer from hypertension. If you have recently visited your doctor with hypertension, and he/she has offered to prescribe you Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride), then this literature will prove beneficial to you by helping you become more aware and comfortable with Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride), especially if you did not particularly understand the doctor's directions concerning the usage of Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride). Patient compliance is very important in a doctor/patient relationship. Learning more about Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) will better prepare you by helping you acquire exactly what must be known concerning this specific prescription medication.

Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) comes in the dosage form of little capsules that somewhat resemble M&M's. The one milligram capsule is grey, the two milligram capsule is yellow, the five milligram capsule is red, and the ten milligram capsule is blue. Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride), as you already know, is used for hypertension. When taking Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride), the doctor will have prescribed you to take one milligram at bedtime. The dose of Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) can be gradually increased to obtain the desired response in blood pressure. Your doctor may recommend that you take Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) in one milligram to five milligram one a day orally. Sometimes, the doctor may be aware that certain patients benefit only from dosages of Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) that are as high as twenty milligrams a day. Your doctor may be monitoring your blood pressure carefully while you are taking Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride). Your blood pressure would also be monitored at the very end of your dosing interval to ensure that control of your blood pressure is being maintained. If you are taking Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) for treating benign hyperplasia, you should take one milligram, at bad time, of Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride), and the dosage may be increased to up to ten milligrams for a day. If, for any chance, you stop taking Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) for several days, you should begin therapy with the first initial recommended dose, not with the dose that you last left off with.

Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) because the Terazosin creates a blocking action that results in the 'opening up' process of arterioles and veins, and this causes a decreased blood pressure reading. Since the veins are no longer constricted, the blood can flow through smoothly, causing less strain in the veins and arterioles. Your doctor will note that while taking Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride), you diastolic pressure will be affected much more significantly than your systolic pressure. If you are a patient using Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia, you should know that Terazosin relaxes the smooth muscles in the neck of your bladder, and as well as your prostate, and this action results in smoother urine flow rates. Peak levels of Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) are reached in your body in about an hour.

If you are a patient taking any other hypertensive medications, caution should be used. Using more than one medication to treat hypertension can cause hypotension. So let your doctor know if this applies to you. Sometimes, a patient may experience syncope while taking Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride). Syncope is a temporary loss of posture. Patients may experience syncope during the first few doses of Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) or after missing some maintenance doses. To lessen the chance that this may happen to you, remember that you should be started with one milligram of Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) at bedtime. If syncope happens, seat yourself down in an upright position and alert your doctor about this side effect.

Some side effects that may occur while taking Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) include dizziness, headache, light-headedness when you stand, nausea, pain your legs and arms, stuff nose, sleepiness, difficult breathing, weakness (especially muscular weakness, swollen wrists and ankles, and heart palpitations. It's important that you do not discontinue or skip the therapy of Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) without first talking to your doctor. Remember to take your first dose of Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) at bedtime to avoid syncope. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible unless you are twelve hours away from your next dose. Never double dose on Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride). Store Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and children. Sunlight may lessen the potency of this or any medication. Try to avoid doing anything that require total alertness for twelve hours after ingesting the first dose of Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) to see how your body reacts to the medication. Also, stay away from over-the-counter cold, cough, and allergy medicines without asking your doctor about it first. Some of the ingredients in these medicines may react negatively with Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride), which could prove dangerous to your health. And if you experience any of the side effects in a great degree and for prolonged periods of time, and to the point where it's interfering with your life, contact your doctor right away. If you take Hytrin (Terazosin Hydrochloride) regularly and in the right dosage, you will see a dramatic difference in your hypertension. Pair this with good eating habits and moderate exercise, such as walking or riding a bicycle, and you're on your way to a healthier you.
