Hyundai I20 Gets 5 Stars from Euro NCAP

The European New Car Assessment Programme(NCAP) has announced that Hyundai i20 has been selected as the best safety pick. The NCAP award 5 star rating to i20, which is the first for any car produced in India. This is a great achievement for Hyundai Motors which has launched a series of fuel efficient vehicles like Santro and i10.

Hyundai launched i20 simultaneously in India and at its global markets. The premium compact car is superior not only in performance, aesthetics and build quality but also in terms of occupant safety and pedestrian safety.

The i20 scored an impressive six out of seven points in the safety assist category. It received top marks for its safety features like seatbelt reminder and electronic stability control. The computerized electronic stability Control (ESC) helps minimize the risk of skidding by applying brakes to individual wheels in times of emergency.

Hyundai's small car also attained 88 percent in the adult occupant protection tests, which including the whiplash assessment test. The six airbags in the cabin and seat belts with pretensioners helped play a key role in achieving success in the tests for frontal, side barrier and car to pole impacts. The car scored the highest average of 64 percent for pedestrian protection test.

The car received an average of 80.25 percent, the highest among the six models, considered for the ratings. NCAP determines the ratings based on the average scores in for categories Adult, Child, Pedestrian, and Safety Assist.

Talking about the achievement, the managing director of Hyundai Motors Mr. H S Lheem said "the five- star rating for the i20 is recognition of our commitment to class leading safety and performance. The set of six airbags is a benchmark for cars in not only this segment but the one above. The combined safety system in i20 easily allows the i20 to meet stringent European safety norms."
