Hy-Vee Grocery Store Review

Hy-Vee Incorporated operates 220 grocery stores. I am fortunate to live near the Hy-Vee that is located in the Shadow Lake Shopping Center in Papillion Nebraska. After patronizing a few grocery stores in the community I have found that the Hy-Vee in Papillion excels in many areas.

First Impressions:
The outside of the Hy-Vee is always neat and presentable when I shop there. Snow is shoveled promptly and litter is cleaned up quickly. The carts are rounded up often which minimizes rogue carts scratching your vehicle and is convenient to shoppers. Hy-Vee offers hand baskets to carry as well as smaller shopping carts with taller baskets handy for those with fewer items to purchase or those with back problems, regular shopping carts, four fun car type shopping carts that children love to sit in and motorized scooters for shoppers with mobility issues.
Upon entering the store you will find all of the Hy-Vee employees all wear white dress shirts and ties. This sends a clear message that they care about how their staff looks. It also makes it easy to locate a store employee if you need assistance.

Ahhh...The Aroma:
This Hy-Vee also smells wonderful due to the café area on the left and the Starbucks on the right. There is also a floral area with fresh cut flowers and seasonal potted plants. The café offers Chinese food and pizza for eat in or carry out. Competing to tempt your taste buds is the deli which has a vast array of deli meats, cheeses, Panini and hot entrée items such as rotisserie chicken and meatloaf that is way better than I will ever be able to make. The bakery has donuts, cakes, breads, cookies, cinnamon rolls and the like. You may also special order wedding, birthday and special occasion cakes. If you bring in your own drawing or picture the bakery is able to scan it and put your own design on a cake. We did this for my son's last birthday and were very impressed with the results.

Surf and Turf:
The meat department boasts a wonderful selection of fresh meat and seafood fare. Knowledgeable men behind the counter often help me who cut to choose from and if you tell them you plan on freezing the meat they will double wrap it for you.

Saving A Trip:
The Hy-Vee in Papillion can really be a time saver as they have an in store pharmacy, Post Office and SAC Federal Credit Union. Being able to buy stamps or mail a box while I am finishing my grocery shopping saves me time and energy.

But Wait...There's more:
The Hy-Vee in Papillion also offers other services such as metabolic testing, cholesterol and glucose screening, gluten free support group, healthy meal preparation class and birthday party cooking class in their state of the art kitchen/classroom combination room upstairs. There is a fee for some of these offerings as well as class size limits so check with the customer service desk first.

Grocery shopping is not always an enjoyable experience; however, the Hy-Vee makes it as pleasant as possible.
