I Almost Killed Him..

What If Fate Had Gone in the Other Direction?

x
On my way back home from my run today, I 'bout ran over this stupid little emo/goth/whatever kid. It was already dark, and there's this dumbass riding a skateboard on the dark, curvy backroads.

Dressed from head to foot in black, this tall, skinny ghoul shoots right out in front of my car! I only stopped short of turning him into roadkill because his pale, pallid, ghastly face got my attention just in time (Even his fruity hairstyle was jet black.)!

I'm pretty liberal about people's fashion choices. I am not slamming this kid because he's a goth/emo/cutter/ what the hell ever! I am slamming him because he is an idiot, wearing his "invisible pedestrian" costume, because looking cool is the most important thing of all!

I almost killed him! He looked like at least a junior, maybe even a senior. I wondered if this was the year his indulgent, doting parents were planning a big graduation party for him.

I wondered he has little brothers and sisters, perhaps a niece or a nephew who looks up to him, classmates or a girlfriend who's graduation and summer would've been ruined had I not noticed him until it was too late.

Evidently, he must make this fashion statement wherever he goes. Not only did it almost cost him his life, he would have caused me to be the one to do him in! Ironically, he would've caused his blood to be on my hands!

Judging from the look he shot me after I slammed to a stop, I don't reckon he gives a damn!

unfortunately, not even a near death experience can make an emo kid appreciate life. He was probably pissed that you actually stopped short of drilling him with your automobile.

You have compassion as well as creative talents.

Unbelievable, this happened to me a few weeks ago. Same thing, everything was black but his skin. I am too embarrased to tell you what I yelled out the car window. If he wants to die, that's his business, but I don't want to live with the guilt, and horror, the rest of my life! Then again, I could ring his neck!!

See, it's called "natural selection" ... those that are too slow, sick or stupid to get out of the way of danger are skimmed out of the gene pool so the mistake is not repeated. Although, if you've ever seen a movie called "Idiocracy" (which I highly recommend), there is another way it could go. You'll know what I mean if you've seen it.
I had to laugh at your invoking the old Erwin Mainway skits on SNL ... "invisible pedestrian" was my fave, followed closely by "bag of glass."

Glad this ended happily everafter. Teen ager have to be but I would not have only changed his life and those he touched but yours as well and there is the point, they (teenagers) do not think past the moment. As far as not giving a damn when someone says they do not care then that is when they truly care the most. Great story.

I'm darwinian myself sorta. It sure wouldn't have been your fault. What if it was attempted suicide?

Some people just expect the entire word to pander to them.

    Thank you, James!

That is scary stuff. If you do kill him, then you have that riding on your conscience the rest of your life. We have enough youth, we need a fountain of smart!!!! Glad it ended as it did, though Darwinism was tested to its limits. -James

Anyone with a conscience can relate to this terrifying experience. It would be so easy to make such a life altering mistake for a driver confronted with this and life ending for the skateboarder; if only people like that realized how hard it is to see them in the dark.
