I Am a Future Teacher

Daphne B
Teaching is one of the most tiring jobs among other professions. Teachers have to plan for the lessons, teach well during classroom discussions and make instructional materials so that her students would be able to attend well in class, and worse, if she is situated in a public school, she must be really patient and kind because she has to attend to her very naughty students. And I think teaching your students appropriate manners and conduct is the most difficult task of a teacher. I know because I studied elementary and secondary in a public school. I witnessed how my teachers then "evolve" from cute kitties to furious dragons. I witnessed how mischievous and playful children could be when hormones start to rage.

Aside from how tiring teaching could be, it is also waged low. Most of my teachers say that you do not get rich with this profession, but honestly I want to get rich. No one would ever want to be unwealthy, am I right? But perhaps if I apply abroad, one of the teachers added, I would indeed earn a lot of bucks (dollars at that).

What teachers earn a lot here in the Philippines is learning. Teachers learn, too. They learn from their own students. They do not learn mathematics and science from their dear students, but teachers gain experiences from them. These experiences aid them to become better mentors. These experiences help them to develop strategies in classroom management. Last but not the least, these experiences aid teachers to have good relationship with their students.

Before, I had doubts taking up Education as my course. I thought I was here for the wrong reasons. I thought I really do not deserve to be children's facilitator in learning. Well, but those were just thoughts. After some contemplations and reflections, I realized that I was meant to be here, in this course. I should have shifted to another course sooner if I do not belong here. But here I am, still taking up Education, learning how to become an effective teacher. Though teaching cannot be that financially rewarding, it could be rich in learnings and experiences, not to mention that it is very much self-fulfilling...the feeling that you know you have touched others lives.
