I Am a Hypocrite
I am a hypocrite
I do not practice what I preach
I am a hypocrite
I am lazy,
I lack responsibilty,
I suffer from that dreadful plague of apathy
I am a sinner
I have wallowed in self-pity
I have wallowed in self-loathing
I have condemned my actions with my words
I have hated my own sins
I have been disgusted with my own life
But I say now,
I will not back down
I will not spare my pride
I will not compromise the truth
Do you think a penny to a beggar is the "right thing?"
Do you think even one-hundred dollars to a beggar is the "right thing?"
No!
Take in the beggar
Give him food and water
Give him shelter and a warm bed
Show him God's love
Tend first to his body
So that you may better reach to his soul
Perhaps that will be the right thing...
Perhaps that will stand up to God's standards
But I doubt it
Yes, I am a hypocrite
But I will die by my own hand
Before I sacrifice truth to my monstrous ego!

Post a CommentJoin the club, we're all hypocrites. Actually not everyone is a hypocrite, but that has more to do with the fact that not everyone believes in a right and wrong.
This is awesome, Brett! Especially the part about feeding and sheltering a beggar in lieu of giving him money (like giving a drunk a beer). I wasn't sure what I thought when I first came accross ya, man, but after reading alot of your stuff, I can see that you're a young man of conviction and integrity who, like the rest of us, is just trying our best to get through this life in one piece.
