"I Am Legend" Will Not Be Hitting China, and Here is Why!

New Sci-Fi thriller, "I am Legend" will not be shown in China and Will Smith is upset! "I am Legend" is based on the Richard Matheson novel by the same name. "I am Legend" is set in New York where Smith is one of the survivors of a global epidemic.

This movie will be hitting Asia sometime later this month, but China will have nothing to do with it. This is not coming as a surprise to many people, because recently China put a ban on all American movies in hopes to boost sales in the local film industry. This is supposed to be a temporary ban of American movies. Will Smith gave a statement saying " They had worked very hard to get that out there with no luck. Only certain foreign films are being let in."

Will Smith is still talking to Han Sanping to set a release date for "I am Legend" in China. Will Smith has also discussed with Han Sanping about shooting a new film for

"The Karate Kid" in Beijing or Hong Kong. "I am Legend" has received the green release light in Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, India, Indonesia, and even Hong Kong.

Perhaps "I Am Legend" is being kept out of China because the Chinese Communist Party is still ashamed of the corruption that caused their own public health failures during the SARS and Bird Flu epidemics, or maybe a communist official wants a bribe today. You do not think that it is racism, do you? When considering movies, the copywrite infringement that goes on in China, and the trade imbalance made possible by agreed upon treaties, I do not believe that relitively much money would flow out of China in this case.

I think they should be worrying about lead paint and their toy industry more....

Interesting article, I would be interested to know the timeline on China's decision to ban American movies and the whole lead paint toy issue.
