'I Am Number Four's' Dianna Agron and Alex Pettyfer Break Up

"I Am Number Four's" lovebirds Dianna Agron and Alex Pettyfer have called it quits.

An Us Weekly source confirms the two have broken up and that she has moved out of the home they shared.

This news comes as a bit of a surprise because just two weeks ago, they were dodging rumors of their engagement. Agron and Pettyfer, of course, shared an on-screen and off-screen romance. Dianna plays his love interest in the movie "I Am Number Four," which came out this weekend.

As recently as January, Pettyfer had gushed to Ellen DeGeneres about how smitten he was with Agron. "She's an amazing woman and she's got this old school, classic movie star elegance to her. She's amazing."

And Agron commented that "Alex might see himself as a bad boy, but he's actually very sweet in real life,"

Yet as E Online's Bruna Nessif pointed out, Agron and Pettyfer were seen at the "I Am Number Four" premiere where Pettyfer hinted that all the attention on his private life was "overwhelming."

Could overexposure and media pressure to be Hollywood's next "It Couple" have ruined their relationship?

Dianna's rep refused to comment on the break up.

Some readers were more cynical, suggesting Agron and Pettyfer had been using each other for publicity to promote "I Am Number Four."

As one reader commented, "Their movie totally sucks. It is being trashed everywhere. This convenient romance seems to be more about PR and pumping up the movie than genuine. Now the movie is out they are done playing a couple for press, no heartbreak just publicity. If it was anyone else the media would had a full day of bashing this person around."

Yet others were ready to defend Agron, arguing the romance was real because they were living together. Wrote one reader, "Everyone can and does have their own opinions, but seriously, living together would not qualify as a PR stunt. Some people are pathetic. They are amazing and each have a bright career ahead of them; why would they waste time on such "fake" publicity?"

If it was a publicity stunt, then the couple certainly wouldn't be the first to do it. Some readers compared Pettyfer to Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. As one reader quipped, "The movie didn't get big enough numbers to warrant a franchise, so they don't need to keep it up anymore like Robsten."

Another recent example of a "showmance" was Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas. According to sources, Lovato was devastated to find out her romance with Joe Jonas wasn't real. Sources suggest Disney approached him about dating Lovato to bring in ratings for "Camp Rock 2."

In any case, Agron is dealing with breakups both on and off-screen. Her "Glee" counterpart, Quinn Fabray, was dumped by Sam Evans after her learned that she had cheated on him with Finn.
