"I am a stay-at-home-mom" is the answer I usually give. The response isn't always positive. I am, after all, "Only a mom;" I don't make big money or run a powerful company. I want to explain that I went to college, I could have a real job, I should have a real job...or should I?
When I asked my seven year old daughter what she wanted to be when she grew up, she told me she wanted to be a mom. When I asked her what else she wanted to be she stared at me bewildered and said "How would I have time for anything else?." Sometimes It takes these moments to realize just how important the job of "Mom" is.
I am a Mom. I have lips that will heal any boo-boo, arms that hold our future tight and a soft chest to sleep on. I have hands that hold, touch, rub and mend.; breasts that feed and comfort. I am the first person to hear about a broken heart, class bully or an A. I am the voice of reason that has become a child's conscience. I am the reason that my children will never have to think about going to school each day with clean clothes, brushed hair and teeth and a healthy lunch. They will come home to a warm house and a warm dinner.
I am the first kiss in the morning and the last kiss at night. This alone makes the job worth it. While I do not get paid in money, I see the benefits as many. I get plenty of sloppy peanut butter and jelly kisses, lots of flowers, hugs aplenty and just when I think I can't handle the job I get an "I love you" thrown in.
As I see it, I hold many jobs. Never will I be "Only a mom" again. I am building a solid foundation for our future. I am raising children who come from a house where they are loved and cared for. I am raising children who's biggest concern is being children. When I send my children out into the world, I will be confident that my job of "Mother" was the best gift that I could give to myself and to my children.

What a beautiful photo. Your job is one of the most important, and it is not an easy job. You sound like a wonderful mom, and it's too bad more aren't like you. The world would be a much better place.

I'm grateful that my mom was able to stay at home. Hopefully when I want to have children, AC will support my desire to do the same!
