I AM a SOLDIER'S WORSE NIGHTMARE

Memories from the Past in Dream Form

Patthepoet
I am the soldier's worse nightmare,
I come at night as he lies sleeping,
With shouts and guns firing, I torment him,
He awakens in cold sweat - screaming.

Sometimes I bring the horrors of killing,
Of innocent women and children dying-
Of family pets with legs blown off,
Of blood making green grass red.

Whether in the Army now or fifty years back-
I can still awaken him with my horror-
Whether soldier, sailor, or marine, I am there-
Yes, I am his worst nightmare.

Sometimes I am the enemy begging for life-
Then pulling a gun and trying to shoot,
Teaching him that even an act of mercy
Can result in more death which he is not willing to pay.

Yes, I am a soldier's worse nightmare!
