I Am the Ultimate 'Pirates Of the Caribbean' Movie Fan!

If you've never seen any of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie installments, you may not understand how I can claim to be the ultimate fan. Honestly, I wasn't expecting to become such a fan as this type of adventure movie is not my typical fare. So, how did I become such a huge fan of "Pirates of the Caribbean"to the extent that my friends call my boyfriend Captain Jack and he knows that when it comes to presents anything related to Pirates is sure to be a pleasing gift? All it took was seeing one movie, one time. I can't begin to count how many times since then that I have watched all of the movies. The excitement, the suspense, the humor and the romance all combine in this movie series to keep me involved in the storyline and entertained from beginning to end. I turn into a silly teenage girl when it comes to this series. I have collected posters, post cards, shot glasses, magazines, and of course desktop backgrounds all featuring Captain Jack or other members of the cast.

Initially I watched the first installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean" on DVD several months after it had made the rounds of the theaters. I watched with half an eye at first, then before I knew it Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp pulled me into the story. I was in lust with the villainous pirate Captain Jack Sparrow, and filled with admiration for Knightley's character Elizabeth Swann as she defied her upbringing and took on the bad pirates when she felt compelled to do so. I also had a great feeling of sympathy for Orlando Bloom's character Will Turner because I was sure that somewhere along the way his dear sweet honorable, Elizabeth was going to break his heart and run off with Captain Jack. I'm pretty sure that is what I would do, the character with honor and innocence just doesn't appeal to me the way Johnny Depp's character does. In my mind Captain Jack is the main character of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies.

Johnny Depp is known for his huge talent and the way he always seems to become the character he is playing. This has never been more true than with his performances as Captain Jack. He is outrageous, he is sneaky and he is fascinating. He may be a dirty pirate with questionable motives and morals, but you can sense that deep down Captain Jack Sparrow is deeply in love with the fair Elizabeth although he knows that she and the goodhearted Will Turner the long lost son of a pirate are falling in love.

The series began with "Pirates of the Caribbean:The Curse of the Black Pearl",in that first movie we met and were able to find out a little bit of the story of the main characters including not just the love triangle but also the political setting, the military opinions and characters such as Captain Barbossa, and the cursed crew of the Black Pearl. After watching that first movie I was hooked. I could hardly wait for the next installment in the series. The effects and the seemingly endless ocean, the larger than life characters made it come alive in a way that few movies do for me.

It may have seemed like forever to me but eventually, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" was released. No matter how many times you can replay and study the details of a movie on DVD there is nothing to compare to seeing it on the big screen. Captain Jack, super-sized absolutely made my day! The villainous Davy Jones and his crew of cursed souls made their debut in this movie, along with some astounding effects. We were also introduced to Will's father, Bootstrap Turner who was part of the Flying Dutchman's crew. The comedy and the backstabbing in this movie made me even more of a fan, at times it was difficult to decide who was the hero and who was the villain. There were so many twists and turns throughout the movie that I was astounded throughout. Elizabeth and Captain Jack formed an interesting and at times confusing love/hate relationship that often seemed to be on the verge of turning physical. In the end Elizabeth proved her devotion to Will and Captain Jack went down with the ship in a stunning and masterful scene with the Kracken.

Now, there was no way that the series could end with Captain Jack Sparrow being dead, that just wouldn't work, there was no resolution to so many parts of the story that I knew there would be another installment. The beginning of the third movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" has the crew of the Black Pearl and the hapless lovers Elizabeth and Will on a search to locate Captain Jack and bring him back from Davy Jones' locker to help summon Calisto and free the ancient goddess of the ocean from her human body prison. Davy Jones and the original pirate lords were responsible for Calisto being trapped in the first place. Pirate politics and the introduction of Captain Jack's father as well as some great fighting and action scenes made this movie my favorite of the three. The love triangle continued throughout the movie, although at the end Will and Elizabeth were married. The catch in their relationship is one that I will leave for you to find out when you watch the movies.

At this time it appears that Disney is releasing a fourth installment in the series, this one entitled "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides." Reports indicate that Will and Elizabeth are absent in this movie as it deals with a woman from Captain Jack's past and the famous pirate Blackbeard. The release is set for May of 2011 and it is supposed to be in 3D. Personally I can't think of anything better than seeing Captain Jack in all of his drunken, sarcastic, and fascinating glory through the immersion in a 3D movie. I am looking forward to it, and you can bet that as soon as it is available on DVD after I watch it at the theater that I will be adding it to my well worn and beloved "Pirates of the Caribbean" DVD collection.

Along the way I have received birthday cards, emails and all manner of Captain Jack memorabilia from my boyfriend and friends who know of my obsession and love for the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie series.
