I Am Whoever I Want to Be

Brenda C. Lewis
Sometimes, I dream
of being a gangster
just dream it,
dress up like one.

Black hat, rifle cocked
fearless stance,
Mom, take my picture!

Sometimes, I dream
of playing my saxaphone
or bass clarinet
on the White House Lawn.

The sound of my instrument
resonating perfectly
with the rest of the band.

When I held my
newborn nephew.
I dreamed of being a father
Someone's hero.

When I hold my mom
I dream I can bring my
brother back
so she wont cry so much.

I believe in myself
I can be whoever
I want to be.

I still have time
to decide which dream
I will follow.

Right now, while I'm young
My dream is
just to follow
my heart.
