I can't believe you are leaving

Just when I am beginning to get to know you

Just when I find out that you think something of me

But you are... so you told me today

You are one more person

In a long list of people who have left me behind

Who have gone away

I guess I should at least be grateful that you told me

And didn't just disappear

But it's only a small consolation

I would much rather have you stay

So I can discover you

The way that I have always longed to do

But you're leaving

Going somewhere else to make a better life for yourself

Going to escape the hard times that seem to have befallen you lately

Oh how I wanted a chance to do that for you

To heal the wounds

To offer you peace of mind and comfort

And now I guess I will never have the chance

Once you're gone, I am sure it's forever

I am sure this will be our final farewell

I should have gotten my courage up long ago

To ask you to stay

Before you had made up your mind once and for all to leave

But now it's too late

Your bags are as good as packed

And you're as good as gone

And I am standing here holding back tears

That I have never wanted you to see

Maybe this is for the best.

If we were meant to be

It would have happened by now I suppose

but what if it would have happened I keep wondering

If I hadn't led you to believe I didn't want you

If I hadn't held you at bay

What if you wanted me as much as I want you

I guess I will never know

Where your true feelings lie

There are so many things left unsaid

As we silently say goodbye.
