I Caught a Cold

Tony Payne
My head is stuffy, my nose it runs
I think I've caught a cold
I blow my nose all day long
It's really getting old

I usually don't catch them
Drinking lots of Orange Juice
It boosts my immune system
But somehow some germs got loose

There's people at work coughing
And constant sounds of sniffing
I wonder why I caught this
There must be something missing

Was it the walk out in the cold
That we took on Sunday morning?
Frost and ice were on the ground
It should have been a warning

I took some Tylenol today
But it didn't make a difference
Tonight I hit the Airborne
I love the effervescence

I don't know if you've tried it
Airborne really works for me
The extra Herbs and Vitamins
Just help me feel like ME

The best time you can take it
Is when you don't quite feel yourself
Thats' why I keep it handy
There's a tube on the bathroom shelf

But usually I'm healthy
And my morning glass of juice
Helps ward off those nasty viruses
Trust me - it's the truth

There's one thing that's for certain
I hate those rotten colds
So fighting them is a priority
Making germs do as they're told

So wish me luck this evening
As I take my medicine
I don't want a really stuffed up head
And my patience wearing thin

Being stuffed up is frustrating
Makes me want to stay in bed
All fed up and grumpy
Like a bear with a sore head

But I'll keep my sinuses working
And make those germs behave
I'll quickly have them on the run
And off to an early grave

I'm hoping that tomorrow
When I next compose a rhyme
That my head is feeling clearer
And already feeling fine

I usually drink a large glass of Orange or Grapefruit Juice every morning, and the Vitamin C helps keep me free of colds and flu etc. If I feel a sore throat coming on, I take an Airborne pill, which kicks my immune system into overdrive.

Maybe I need to move to Thailand :) Do you think it's the weather, or something to do with the diet, plenty of spicy food etc...

Cool! Weirdly I never seem to get colds since I moved to Thailand - got several a year in the US. Think I've had one in 7 years in Bangkok :-)

It happens to all of us unless we live in a cave!

Thanks Mike. I just took some Myquil/Nightnurse so I will hopefully sleep well tonight. Often if my head fills up, I get tremendous sinus headaches. Hopefully this time it will be ok.

Very nice Tony, I had no idea you were a poet. Sorry you are feeling poorly.

I managed to catch something this week and am recovering now. I take handfuls os supplements and vitamins every day, but it isn't always enough! Get well soon!

Thanks Janet, I will as soon as I get home. Dosing up on Vitamin C helps drive a cold away most of the time.

Get well soon Tony! Drink some OJ... :-)

Thanks R.K. With a bit of luck the Airborne will kick in, otherwise I might have to resort to something stronger. A shot of Rum or Whisky usually helps clear the head a bit.
