I Choose Diversity..

I Respect Your Right to Agree to Disagree

Deana Marshall (Baconator)
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html#Am1

Dictatorship requires one party to be in control of a nation, or in this instance a web site and maintains its control by using a climate of fear, or in this instance, fear of having an article removed, suspension, or hate mongrels invading your space due to lack of ability to agree to disagree. This is all understandable though, they too are under the dictatorship, and the fear is instilled in them to be the good little soldiers. They have lost their ability to stand on their own two feet and use common sense in discussions. There motto is, YOUR DIFFERENT THEN ME so you must go down! No bars held! I will call you names and defame your character! I will go to any and all lengths to make you shut up! If that fails, I will go and report your non-conformist actions to the DICTATOR!

I love the word dictator. I mean really, it does have that aura to it and it is spelled with one of my top five favorite male body parts! How could it be wrong?

Let us face the facts here folks. The entire garb about freedom of speech is just that, garbage. You are banned in a sense, to voice your own beliefs in a public forum with out fear of some sort of repercussion. If it does not jive with the dictator or owner of the site action will be taken against you, unless of course your one of the faithful soldiers, then it is taken for what it was meant to be taken as, nothing read into it! . Free speech is only free if you keep it in your journal, and even then, it could still be held against you in a court of law.

The internet states that there is free speech, but it still is censored, if not by site owners, then by the government. Personal internet access in the US is not subjected to technical censoring but one can be penalized by law for any violations of the rights of others. I agree, that there should be some sort of control on what flies over the net, and yes, site owners should have a say on what goes and what stays. I agree that schools, libraries, and businesses should have the right to censor what is being viewed. I do not have an issue with any of that. However, what I do have an issue with is this, the equality of how that dictatorship is distributed.

Why is it okay for one to post controversial items and not another?. Why is it that one can question the humor in something, deem it not humorous, and have it removed? Regardless if others found it humorous. How can one, via internet, be the judge and the jury? How can one, via internet, defame a person character without even knowing the individual? Tell me why one can violate another's rights on here and walk away unscathed, yet another whom is ganged up on by the soldiers either gets banned or has to deal with other repercussions.

Why is there no equality on here?

I was told in a sense that there was no need for my type of writing on the net. Alrighty then, I agree that you have the right to your opinions, but I disagree. Although my writing may not be stellar, the day I buckle under to that mentality of thinking is when I will be missing all the colors of the world. That is not going to happen! I embrace diversity. Because a few, or heck, even more possibly, think they can stifle my thoughts or opinions, saddens me in the manner that they in the first place think they have that much power over another they do not even know. But it also saddens me because I feel that type of mentality is missing out on a lot.

Then I saw the comment regarding a person having a narcissist on their favorites list. Now mind you, this person diagnosed the so-called narcissist via the net with I am sure their internet psychology degree, and then made a comment that it figured the producer referred to wrote in the manner they did. It is as simple as this; there are many flavors of ice cream, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, dirty sneakers even, I will select which ones I favor over another. It is a personal choice, and that I thought was the beauty of America, the ability to choose what type of ice cream I want to eat, how I want to think, write, whom I choose to read, support, follow, lead, vote for, etc.!

Diversity is what makes the world go around. You have every right to disagree with me. I will not take that from you. However, at least try to be respectful in your arguement.

Not Quite the Stig.... Thank you for your input. I understand what you are saying and know this. My feelings and beliefs behind it though is though that the two should coinside as one, with the ability to embrace diversity should automatically grant the eqaulity. In the writing forum, the diversity of writing styles, topics, issues, opinions, etc should be granted equality. Does that make sense? LOL! Okay, let me put it this way, say I read something I don't agree with, becuase there is a diverse amount of opinions, etc on here, but just because I may not agree with it, or even the majority agree with it, doesn't mena it doesn't deserve the same rights as say an article I did agree with. That is all I am saying. With diversity should come equal rights. We are a melting pot here, and each and every citizen should have the equal rights in order for a melting pot to function.

Diversity is different than equality. Diversity demands that everybody meshes together in effort to create a diverse America -- equality simply says that everyone has equal rights.

This is an awesome article, and I feel the same way. It is indeed okay for some folks to flame, harrass, and insult others on AC and other sites like it, but as soon as the "non-special" folks fight back, then the hammer of Thor comes down hard and fast! Reminds me of my high school days, when gangs of jocks and football studs would bully and torture kids like me in full view of faculty without reprisal, then the day I broke one of their noses, I had 4 teachers wrestle me to the ground, resulting in a 2-week suspension. Clearly, there are some VERY special people who can get away with things we cannot. Like the line from "Animal Farm" puts it: "All of the animals are equal. Its just that some animals are more equal than others".
