I Choose Me

Robin Jessie-Green
Maybe it's too early

Maybe it's too late

I don't possess a strong enough spirit

To sit back and wait

Killing me softly?

Hardly.

This causes pain

So intense and unnerving

No written or spoken word can explain

Just agonizing sounds

That resound

Penetrating the eardrums

With such intensity

They become numb

Though the hurt lives on in my chest

Takes a sharp turn west

Traveling north to the central source

Surging throughout my every limb

Repeating the cycle of misery

Again and again

Loving you will either be

The life or death of me

Now I must let you go

So the latter I will never know

When it comes down to you or me?

You lose

Because I choose me.
