Some great benefits of a small cat flap:
Benefit 1:
The smaller sized cat flap is great if you have a tiny kitten and need to teach it to use the new flap. This is good practice and gets them accustomed to the feeling of the flap upon their back, plus the flap wont end up being too heavy either.
Benefit 2:
These are harder to get through for bigger animals and/or house burglars. It's a depressing fact that thieves can get through many door flaps when they can manage to get their head and shoulders through it, which can be scary. The smaller sized the flap the more unlikely this is to take place. Even a burglar that would be reaching up to take hold of the door key could be beaten down using a very small cat flap.
Benefit 3:
They help to keep the home warmer for the duration of cool spells as the size of the hole is literally smaller and so a reduced amount of air can get out during regular use.
Benefit 4:
They assist to maintain the structural strength of the door. Basically if a big hole has been chopped into a wooden door then the door becomes weaker because of this. The smaller the hole cut into the door, then more of it's strength remains helping to keep your home protected.
Benefit 5: Less obtrusive. Small cat flaps aren't on show quite so much as a larger cat flap and thus do not distract from the physical appearance of your home.
With any luck, this will quickly grant you ideas regarding small cat flaps. A small flap for a kitten is excellent if you're concerned about safety and helps to reduce just how much cold air can get into your home when the flap is being used.
It also stops some larger animals such as pet dogs or neighboring kitties to go in if they're larger.
