I Didn't Think You Needed to Know

A Powers
Do you remember
when we had that conversation in your car
and you said, in not so many words,
that you were my boyfriend for real
and you weren't going to just leave me?
After I got into my car to go home, I cried.
I couldn't help it.
I cried all the drive home and a little into morning.
I didn't think you needed to know.
And do you remember
when you let me wear your shirt, the lucky shirt,
the hoodie that survived your near-fatal car crash
and soaked up the blood when you moshed
and cut your damn head open?
I wore it to bed, two nights in a row
and pulled the hood over my face
and inhaled you and felt safe.
I guess I didn't mention that.
