I Don't like Coffee, but I Can Get into Starbucks!

Christopher
I finally decided to stop into Starbucks to see what all the fuss was about. I must admit I was a virgin, just to let you know that upfront and get that little detail out of the way. I purchased a cookie and a chicken sandwich; $8.01 exactly after tax. But then I took a bite into my cookie ...

A few things came to mind. Crack cocaine, amphetamines, Tylenol 3, codeine, a smooth German beer. Okay arguably, the drinking was a social thing I did back in college and I have no experience with cocaine of any type, well except for that one time in the hospital, and I didn't get anything out of that experience. But I must admit I was driving around looking for the next one to get my fix.

I decided that it wasn't wise to cut across four lanes of traffic and make a U turn just to get a few more cookies. But now I feel, well rather dirty. Why can't I eat like this every day of my life? My grandparents had all of the ingredients in the refrigerator and the cupboard, and if you wanted to prepare food like this yourself everything was right there. No preservatives of any kind, the word wasn't in their vocabulary. Or so I thought, because my grandfather had a thing for artificial eggs and artificial sweeteners because he was diabetic.

My grandmother would bake these cookies with those sweeteners and we were addicted to them! I always swiped a few, okay twelve, when no one was looking. I have to get my life together and get off of these cheap preservatives. Even the food in the delicatessen at the grocery store has preservatives in it. I need to eat right, I need to take my life back. You can't drive more than a fifteen minutes without finding a Starbucks in this town. I think I know what I need to put on my grocery list from now on ...
