I Don't like the Feeling in My Gut

The Rev. Pat Robertson's Words Weigh Heavily on the Author While They Draw Mockery and Scorn from Blogs

I don't like the feeling in my gut... by Paula Neal Mooney

Last night I went to bed thinking about Rev. Pat Robertson's predictions of an upcoming attack on the US. Rev. Robertson said that God told him the attack will result in "mass killings" and direly affect millions of folks.

This morning I woke up with Rev. Pat Robertson's words on my mind and in my soul. This is not good...I thought.

You see, I lean heavily on the Lord and Holy Spirit to tell me what to write each day. I don't like that Rev. Pat Robertson's words are still with me this morning. I don't like that I can't dismiss and mock Robertson's words as easily as some (not all) of the folks below have, a small portion of the bloggers who've pounced (except dennyrburk) and called Rev. Pat Robertson everything from a liar to a loon.

For once in my life I'm hoping all the atheists, agnostics and "science is God" folks who so suredly declare that Rev. Pat Robertson isn't hearing from God are correct in that regard alone. But I keep asking myself: What if Robertson's right this time? What if Robertson's right?Maybe it's the fact that Keith Ellison will swear in on a Koran tomorrow that's got me feeling this way. Maybe it's the way most Christians go silent whenever Rev. Pat Robertson speaks, or side with the unbelievers like the folks in the prophet Jeremiah's day no doubt did. Most likely it's the sin in my own soul that I know God will someday answer...

Right or wrong, disdain for Rev. Pat Robertson always amazes me:Pat Robertson on The Huffington Post - Pat Robertson on The Huffington Post

Pat Robertson: "The Lord didn't say nuclear"

Pat Robertson is Hearing Voices Again

Media Outrage Over Pat Robertson's Latest Comments: His Recent ...

So there you have a sampling of the bile being spewed against Rev. Pat Robertson, whom I hope inspires the saints to take up a national fasting and prayer campaign. Because all that's ringing in my soul are the might Words from a God Who has proved His might to people who've scoffed Him in the past:

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

I think he's likely paranoid scizophrenic. People with that disorder believe that they are so important that they must be either someone super famous (Napoleon, Queen Elizabeth, Radar from MASH), or that God has closen them alone to speak to because of their extreme importance. If he were not famous he would likely be diagnosed as being mentally ill and possibly housed in a mental health facility.

Laura Spencer, Some of us know what you mean. Don't you sweat the house genius being unable to grasp something so therefore it is not. No matter what we do, there is one who has all power and that one will ultimately fill his house with those who choose to be there. The very essence of the importance of freedom is that very choice which freedom was conceptualized in order to afford us. To look upon man's actions and rationalize that "god" is something "less" is like looking at a two year old and rationalizing that no parents ever should have a child...and so it goes as it comes...

I can easily dismiss pat robertson as a liar and a loon. And to the comment that "whatever happens, god is in control" If that is the case, then we are all in trouble. If he is all powerful and the condition of the world is the best he can do, I mean. And as for the bad feeling in the gut, I am a little uneasy too. Not because a fruitcake made a prediction, but because of the desperate and sadistic leader we have in the White House.

No matter how insane Pat Roberts may sounds we all still have to respect him and respect what he is saying especially these days of terrorism. Great article. Well written and well said Paula. Bye

Pat Robertson needs to go lie down. I don't even know how to address his ridiculous and supposed prophecies based on his discourse with God, but the feeling in you have in your 'gut' after listening to him proves what an effective tool fear can be.

As for the comment on the Muslim in office and the Koran being the book he's to be sworn in upon...I'd be a lot more worried about his ethics if he were to allow himself to be sworn in hand upon the bible. Not because the bible is better or worse, but because that is not the medium to which God as he understands that speaks to him. The bible theoretically holds little or no spiritual matter to Ellison, and it would make his oath shallow and ...well, from his perspective as I see it, empty. Would you swear with your soul on something other than the Bible?

Ms Mooney, We will be attacked. That is true. Do we need a goofus like Pat Robertson with his, as AJ King points out, sour political agenda to tell us so...I believe 'not'. We will be attacked again because like a person sitting beneath a tree full of pigeons will be hit eventually by what falls from Pigeons, we are the USA and 'some' Muslims hate us. They will do what those Muslims do. Be at peace, Ms Mooney. Sounds like you are directed by a greater conscience already. Any harm that comes will come only to what they have access to. your soul is impervious to them. As for when, it can be summed up real well by asking a question. Why should they bother with an attack now. We are going thru internal strife on a wide scale without an attack...why screw that up by attacking and bringing us together again...?

I, for one, believe in that still, small voice that puts a feeling in our gut when we would be inclined to ignore something. I would, also, more than likely ignore Pat Robertson so as to avoid hype. But - I also am taking his concern up in prayer and fasting. Thanks for putting a different lens on this story so I could see it!

First of all, Pat Robertson has a political agenda, and he's usually wrong anyway... Secondly, just because you threw it in there, the fact that a Muslim will be sworn in on the Koran is not a bad thing.... If you were a Christian elected to office in a predominately Muslim country, would you swear on a Koran??? No, because that isn't your faith. By the way, the Koran he swore on once belonged to Thomas Jefferson.
