I Don't Play that Way

Melissa Lawson
Why is it so hard to figure out
just what it is I need?
Why do men say I'm complicated,
but don't know the real me?
Why is it, when I open up
and say what's on my mind,
They turn and run the other way,
yet say they're being kind?

Why do men ask questions,
if truth is not the goal?
And, when you do speak just the truth,
they find the nearest hole.
They'll tell you that they want you,
then run, when you respond.
And yet they still come crawling back,
when you find more in the pond.

Why is it when you ask a question,
a man can't speak to you?
Give me a straight answer!
I can handle the truth.
I can't tell if he's not into me,
or too shy to tell me more.
One day he says he wants me,
the next, he's running out the door.

Yet, when I try to find another,
he's back again, to tease me.
Acting like he wants me, too,
and trying to appease me.
Then I reach out to him, again,
and, as before, he walks away.
Should I just give up on him?
I don't play that way!
