I Give Up! Global Warming is REAL!

Snidely Whiplash
Yeah, it's July. And yeah, it's hot! Not regular July mid-Atlantic hot, but Hell like hot. Hot like an oven left open. Hot like miserable. With the attendant humidity of the typical mid-Atlantic Summer, it is nearly unbearable outside. Yesterday's high in Richmond was forecast to be 106. It actually reached 105 and today is predicted to be 104 again.

But hot days are not all that unusual. Richmond usually has one or two days per Summer at or over 100. And often those days are as humid as possible, the air so heavy it feels laborious to breathe it. But lemme tell ya what the kicker was.

Last night as I got ready to turn off the TV and go to sleep I switched - out of sheer curiosity - to the local 24 hour weather. At 12:40 AM - 40 minutes PAST midnight, when the sun had been down for almost four hours by then - it was still 91 degrees, with the heat index a searing 102 degrees. One-hundred-two degrees in the dead of night? Okay, as junior weather boy as my wife teases me, I know that is for sure NOT normal at all, and in fact is likely the highest heat index for 12:40 AM that I have ever encountered to my fair recollections. Perhaps Arizona suffers under that, but not Virginia! And 91 at 12:40 AM is not anything I have ever seen here.

Now for the record, I am joking about my finally accepting global warming. I mean when it's as cold as a Witches' tit in a brass bra in Minnesota in January, I am not allowed to claim THAT is sufficient to disprove global warming, right lefties? That's what they say - I've seen 'em do it more than once, so don't go all hypocrite on me now. Odd too in that a famous lefty round here wrote that it's so hot and winter is so cold and storms so prevalent that is proof of climate change.

So weather fluctuations are proof of global warming, but intense and once a century type cold and snow are also proof of the leftist contention. I love that, ya know! I guess no accounting for el nino and la nina, huh? No accounting for extremes of either end unless said accounting confirms what some hopefuls wish for politically. Since when has climate and weather been political?

Since the left abandoned their 1978 coming ice age and the fixes for that, which oddly were similar to their alleged global warming fixes, and the early 1990's forwarding of global warming as the coming end for Earth, weather has become leftist politics in action. Oddly the same things leftist's generically desire - more government, tighter control on business and industry and more intrusion into the lives of private citizens and their free-will choices, are identical to the fixes for global warming. Wow, convenient, huh? Add in the "outing" of global warming proponents hiding and discounting evidence that DOES NOT support their wishes, and it gets more interesting. No one to my knowledge not favoring global warming has been outed as passing emails how to hide the evidence, so . . . .

It's hot y'all. It will remain so until late September if history is any indicator. If one knows typical weather patterns one knows the mid-Atlantic is enjoying a Bermuda high, and that is normal Summer stuff. This is just an extended and especially warm one. Our weather is predicted to break this evening with a cold front and perhaps a little rain. Temps for the coming week, based on the ten day forecast, are to be in the low 90's and upper 80's - normal July weather for Virginia. So, what evidence is there again that we will all burn to a cinder by this evening? Oh, that's right - there's not any, unless one has a hopeful political desire that dovetails to their other little desires.

Is this where I tell them to "Chill Out?" That rocks!

Just revisited this Pat...so now, 5 months after your comment, we've had the coldest December on record, Europe slammed by snow again and again and repeated snows and bitter cold in the Mid Atlantic and NE, and as of this morning, snow is on the ground in every state except Florida... Hawaii included, so, you were saying Pat? Oh, I forgot, extreme cold is proof of global warming come "global climate Change." Nice when you have a cover for everything, no matter what happens.

People who knock global warming by stating that it got cold in the winter just prove their ignorance on the subject.

  • Julia Bodeeb7/29/2010

Yep, global warming seems real this summer. Outrageous heat here and it usually never cools down...even at 2 am.

  • Cathy A Montville7/28/2010

You are indeed tricky, but you cannot fool me! Ha! It has been unbelievably hot here in MA! Yikes....the kids cannot even go out to play! Witches and brass bras...wickedly funny!

  • Sheryl Young7/28/2010

Recently it was "disproven" that some of the scientists who came out against global warming were being truthful. Wonder who paid someone off for this UNproof!.

  • Greg Seltz7/27/2010

Vegas weather is about the same for this time of year...good article ;)

No Ma'am Lorraine. I was tricking the lefties into reading my article. I have to resort to subterfuge to get them to read my work. A fun little game we play - them pretending they're so smart and morally superior and I keep reminding them they ain't nearly as clever as they think they are by half.

Okay, I know it's hot. But if you believe in global warming I have a bridge to sell you!

  • Agnes Farside7/26/2010

I thought you had converted...my heart stopped for a second.

  • David A. Reinstein, LCSW7/25/2010

It's been unseasonable cool here in Northern California... but that has not eliminated my understanding and belief in Global Warming... But, whatever it too, glad to see you rethinking it, Jim!
