I Hate You: But I Can't Let You Go

Mary E. Coe

My family and friends tell me that you're no good for me
I know you're no good for me
But, I just can't let you go, I don't know why, but, I just can't
You're like a leech, clinging to my flesh
I tried so hard to put you down,
I hate you, but, I can't let you go
I saw you the other day
you just sat there, staring at me, daring me to pass you by
Daring me to say no to you
I reached out to you, I had to have you, but I stopped myself
I looked the other way and walked on by
I didn't know I was that strong
Maybe I do have the strength to let you go
You're like a bad habit, you're like an addiction
Even if it takes professional help; I will rid myself of you
You will no longer control my life; after all you're just a Cigarette

I must admit that a man I used to date came to mind when I started reading this. Guess he was just as stinky. Ha. -Very good poem! I enjoyed it!

What an amazing ending...I was so into this poem thinking of my Ex, too. I loved the line "I didn't know I was that strong." Inspirational!
