I Keep Your Photo by My Bedside

H. Kris Thomas
Where is the glory in waking?
Dressing in that halo of magic that surrounds us
Welcoming us into another day
Why the agitation at having to open My eyes
At seeing the light this morning?

And I wish I could stay here in my Bed
In my cold room
Wrapped up in these blankets of mine
Instead of coaxing myself out and up And contemplating
Answers to the question
Why?

I keep your photograph at my bedside
For without it I am naught
Laying in my bed all day and all night
I whisper your name like a prayer
Even in my dreams
Dreaming that you are here
And you are my inspiration
Somehow, without you I fear that I Am nothing
Relying on that face of yours to keep Me moving in the same dimension as You
To keep me moving in time with you
