I like George W. Bush

I am about to reveal what has become a well-guarded secret amongst many Americans: I actually like George W. Bush. Now, that's not to say that I am a blind follower of some of his more questionable policies, but it is to say that whenever I see or hear the guy, I actually kind of smile. You see, even though his approval rating numbers are down, and I don't trust polls, not even when they're good, I can't hate the man. Everyone says, "Well you know his 'down-to-earth' image is just that, an image," but I don't totally agree. While saying President Bush is down-to-earth in the same sense that I'm down-to-earth is like saying a Ford Pinto drives just the same as a Mercedes, yet I don't believe it is all an act with this man. I mean, just listen to him speak; there is nobody in the known world who could speak as badly in public as President Bush does and then still pull the wool over somebody's eyes.

Now, I don't like the War in Iraq and I have to say that if anything has caused his slump in popular opinion, it is that war. I supported the invasion to oust Saddam Hussein, but that war ended on May 1, 2003; the war I don't support is the one that has been waged since then. Sadly, President Bush just doesn't get the fact that we're not winning. We're not losing either, we're just in a stalemate and it's time to just pull-out. President Bush, that's not retreat or defeatism, that's just plain commonsense.

Back to what I was writing about though, the fact that I like President Bush. While a lot of my reason for liking him stems from the fact that, to me, he is a personable man, I believe some of it also stems from my aversion to liberals. I don't hate liberals, I actually like and support many of their ideas like stem-cell research and gun control, I just don't like to be around them. Now I'll catch a lot of flak for what I'm about to say, but if there's a group of people that, personality wise, makes me feel depressed and angry with myself for no discernable reason besides the fact that I'm white and American (which is bad, I guess…), it's liberals. Why do they have to be this way?

If I didn't spend most of my day at college dealing with these intellectual know-nothings, I'd probably not walk around as if I have a stick shoved up somewhere. Like I said, I love many of their ideas, but you know what they say about the messenger and the message. They just grate on me, I don't know why, but I just don't like being in the same room as them and the fact that President Bush isn't one of them makes my opinion of the man rise tenfold. Now, people can send me all the flak they want. I just wish more people would feel the way I do about the man.

I mean, I also feel sorry for him. I believe that he is trying to do the best job he can and everyone is expecting a million percent from him. So that's another thing, I always root for the underdog. I would hate being compared to Hitler and being called the world's worst terrorist, even though that title goes to somebody else who likes to live in caves. It must not be easy for him and I just wish people would at least show him some respect.

All-in-all, with all redundancy, I just like the man.
