I Love Boobies Bracelets Bringing Awareness to Breast Cancer

Bracelets for Everything

Each summer our town has a small parade on the Fourth of July. Last year small elastic bracelets were handed out that had an American flag on them. Anyone could put them on and where them any place. They were very attractive. I still have mind and wear it to show my patriotism.

The Keep a Breast Foundation (KBF) sells bracelets that says," I (heart) Love Boobies." The bracelets are a way to generate income to fight cancer and to bring awareness to their cause.

Recently a school district tried to ban students from wearing the bracelets. The schools claimed that they were a distraction to the education process. The parents of two girls took the school to Federal court and won.

According to the KBF web site, in the official ruling, Judge Mary McLaughlin stated, "The bracelets are intended to be and they can reasonably be viewed as speech designed to raise awareness of breast cancer and to reduce stigma associated with openly discussing breast health. The words [I heart boobies] were chosen to enhance the effectiveness of the communication to the target audience." For all of these reasons, the Court concluded, "It would have been unreasonable for these school officials to conclude that these breast cancer awareness bracelets are lewd or vulgar under the Fraser standard."

School officials are not the bad guys here. They followed through with what they are suppose to be doing. I am sure many officials support the idea behind the bracelets.

These bracelets are becoming a very popular item. There are so many uses for them. They can be used like a ticket at a concert, they can identify participants in activities, they can identify small children, they can call awareness to a specific cause or event and they are excellent for athletic events. Businesses even use them for advertising.

The rubber bracelets are made from silicone and come in various colors and sizes. You can get pictures, slogans, images, names and addresses on them. They do not fade.

You can order these bracelets for your need at 24hourwristbands.com and at wrist-band.com.

When I was teaching, we had an assistant principal who would not let kids wear anything with the CK (Calvin Klein) logo, because he had been to a seminar in which they had been told that CK means cop killer.

Really! How warped will the mind of an adolescent become from being exposed to the word "booby"? Nice piece Hank.

They were told not to wear these at my daughter's school too. No suspensions or punishment or anything like that, just a request not to where them.
