I Love Meijer's Television Commercials! Meet Gary the Zombie

If You Don't Have a Meijer's I Feel Sorry for You

Shana Dines
Speaking of "Why zombies make good husbands," I had to write about why I love Meijer's commercials. I have often been entertained by the Meijer's commercials. Their commercials are some of the most original and funny ones on television.

I along with millions and maybe billions of people in the world, get annoyed with all the commercials on television. If you are not hip and updated and don't have a DVR like most of the civilized planet, you are plagued by commercials. My daughter informed me that the TV people, (Snort, don't you like my professionalism?) have gotten wise to us. They now include their commercials in the programs. You all probably already know this.

For example the Gossip Girls may say, "Let's meet at Pizza Hut."

How smart is that? They include their commercials in their episode. You will have to bear with me. My son is home with the, I am sure it is the Swine Flu, or is it just the H1 N1? Whatever it is I am sure I will get it, even though the doctor informed me that I am too old to get it. I suppose that should make me feel better. There are some benefits to being old. I am not sure I know what they are but supposedly being immune to the swine flu is one of them. I already feel the germs invading me.

Back to the Meijer's commercials. If you are fortunate enough to live in an area where you have Meijer's, you have seen some of them. There is the one of the floods of shopping carts whizzing through Meijer's. One old lady, I am hoping she was in costume or she would surely break a leg, is zooming through the parking lot, sailing with foot on the cart, wheeing happily into Meijer's.

There costumed people including suites of armor clinking through the aisles armed with swords just as if this were normal for shoppers to look like this; getting the best deals at Meijer's. You can see people cartwheeling their way through Meijer's and stampeding to the bargains.

My favorite one though is Gary the Zombie. A young lady in an office is telling Gary the zombie that he is so lucky to be a zombie. He doesn't have to think up a Halloween costume every year. He giggles coquettishly. He tells her that she can find everything that she needs at Meijer. You can find candy, decorations and anything that you need for Halloween at your local Meijer. Gary has a very charming and helpful friendly personality. He is cute in a roguish sort of way, as far as slimy gross zombies go.

She pats him on the shoulder and his arm falls off as she thanks him. She tells him he never steers her wrong.

Sometimes I think that an ordinary boring life is a lot more satisfying than some of the periods in my life have been. I probably would not have been this easily amused or entertained at many times in my life.

We have a Meijer's, but I haven't seen this commercial. I probably won't now since Halloween is over, but it sounds hilarious.
