I Love You Mom

Eric Hubbard

A gentle sunrise dawning through the window

A small infant, bathed in sunlight in the cradle

A mother walks into the room, breathless

To see the child asleep on his side, hair a mess

Brings a smile to the mothers face, and slows her step in place.

Years later and down the road, the child is arguing, yelling and screaming

Deep inside the mothers heart is breaking, but for her child she endures.

A simple I love you, from her lips, stops the child, hands on his hips.

Water flows into his eyes, and with a heartfelt sigh, his simple reply

I love you too mom. Simply said and simply put, it helps to ease the pain and hurt.

The day she dreads is coming near, to college he will fly without fear.

Laughing with his friends, clapping backs, not a look to her does he give.

She smile and tries to be strong, her baby is grown up, about to have flown.

He starts into the car, pauses and turns, she smiles big, hiding the tears.

I love you mom. He smiles and drives away, and her heart goes with him, on his way.

Older now, with kids of his own, he remembers fondly his mom, and how she shone.

Her phone rings, and the voice on the other side, I love you mom, is the reply.

Her heart jumps for joy, and is filled with glee, her baby boy she is going to see.

Dinner they have, just the two of them, filling her heart with gladness, and memories.

I love you mom, and thank you dearly, you made my heart complete, and my family near.
