I Made $1000 a Week Selling on EBay!

A Suburban Housewife's Fairy Tale

Pick up any supermarket stand magazine, or turn on any late night infomercial and the claims of getting rich quick are more than plentiful. Admit it, you have always been curious. Can I sit home in my pajamas with a bucket of rocky road ice cream on my lap and no schedule, or boss to keep me in line and still take home some serious dough?

One way to stay home and still make some money is the very real business of dealing in ebay. Now by no stretch of the imagination can selling items on ebay be described as a way of making a fortune overnight. Is there money to be made? You bet there is! However, you must have your feet and dreams planted firmly in reality.
First of all, honestly evaluate what it is you want to sell. Remember the rule of thumb that what is one person's junk is another person's treasure. Still, what that person will pay for that treasure is something else. Don't over price your item or you will price yourself into no sale hell.

Try to think of selling on ebay like selling your goods at a tag sale. Resign yourself to the decision to sell the item regardless of what you finally wind up getting as the final sale price. If you are wise, you will list that item on ebay with no reserve and no starting price. This opens the item up for sale and will not scare off any perspective buyers.

Personally, I have had positive experiences with selling on ebay. First, I represented a seller that was looking to unload some high end designer clothing. My seller had already made peace with the items and just wanted them out of her closet. True, they sold for way below the original cost but the seller gained a little cash and a lot of closet space.

The next item I sold for her involved a custom made competition ball gown she had made for her participation in a ballroom competition. The original cost of the item was around $2500. Unfortunately, the seller had not fully fallen out of love with this gown and insisted I start the bidding at $1000. While I did get a few inquiries on the dress, I never got a bid anywhere near what she was asking. The gown did not sell, it cost the seller the listing fees, and she discovered ebay was not the path for her to take.

I also tried to jump on the bandwagon that once overtook the world with the Tickle Me Elmo craze. I waited n line and purchased my Elmo dolls. I intended to keep one in pristine collection and unload the other two for more than what I had paid. I got greedy and asked for double what I had paid. Guess what? Tickle Me Elmo is alive and well living in my basement closet. No bites and no interest on my items. The market had been saturated.
Can you get rich with ebay? I'm not going to say you will be the next millionaire and I'm not going to state that you will make any real money overnight. If you are persistent and rid yourself of emotional attachment to the item yo will score. I would not recommend purchasing items to resell on ebay and I doubt that any honest person would.
If you have a hand-made craft or treasure in that attic and you don't mind parting with it for a few bucks, ebay is the route to take. I never made $1000 a week on ebay but I'm not saying its impossible. Good luck, happy cleaning, and enjoy.
