Isolated, in a crowded hall,
My mother sat in her wheelchair,
Slumping,
Lifelessly staring,
Unaware,
Lost to the world around her,
So all alone.
My mother sat in her wheelchair,
Slumping,
Lifelessly staring,
Unaware,
Lost to the world around her,
So all alone.
I whispered, "Mom," and she seemed to wake,
Connecting to the present time
Eyes
Watery with tears,
Frantically,
Reaching to pull me closer,
Holding on tight.
We embraced in the crowded hallway,
And I kneeled, close, by her wheelchair,
Whispering
I love you so much
Missing her
Even while held in her arms
Knowing, soon she'll be gone.

Post a CommentI can feel your pain and so understand...but..oh how I wish that I could hug my mom !!....
My mother is in a nursing home. I so understand your pain.
I'm sure this is a tough time for you, my mother is battling cancer. Makes you wonder sometimes what the meaning of life is.
Very well written.
I'm sobbing as I read this one. Thanks for the excellent and moving piece. This one strikes home for me.
Sooo beautiful, very well written.
You have expressed yourself very powerfully.
I know exactly what you mean all too well. Excellent poem.
I really like this poem, even though the words are simple. I could feel some of what you were expressing for your mother! Nicely done.
