I Missed the Days when You Loved Me

Breidi Caparatta
This piece is from the heart and soul of a female soldier that I thought should be shared. It is a brief look into a tender heart and soul of a friendship like no other and a love stronger than sisterhood. If you happen to see this rendition of the words etched in pencil, know you were, are and always will be my third sister. You have touched hearts and souls in this world that you may never know. Hold your head proud my dearest friend, hold it with honor.

Words of a Female Soldier

I miss the days when you loved me; I miss the days when you were there

I miss having someone who knew me, I miss having someone to understand

I live with 480 strangers, faces changing everyday,

No one here knows me and I wonder if I really know them

Our friendships are paper, flimsy and transparent when held to the light

I wonder if they notice or feel the same way

I need to go home, I need a break

I need personal time, time just to think

I am surrounded by 480 people and everyday I am alone

I wear a pretty little mask that sometimes is broken

They ask me what is wrong and believe me when I say nothing

I guess I am just whining to an empty sheet of paper, but it listens so well

I can tell all of the thoughts of my mind and know the secrets are safe.

Between the stress of my very long days, my paper friendships friends that will soon blow away

I am so tired of this place, I want to find a place to hide

A place far away too, but that is not the military way

I am a soldier now, a whole nother person now

My mind is much stronger and my body in shape

But my spirit is broken and my mask is fake

No one here knows me and I am always lonely

To sum it all up, I missed the days when you loved me.
