I Use a Nanny Cam

Robin Neorr
Call it invasion of privacy if you like, but I believe that Nanny Cams are not a violation of the babysitters rights.

When you take on the responsibility of being a babysitter you are taking on the responsibility of a child's life. I love my children, and I believe and trust in her caregivers. That being said I would have no problem taping my babysitter.

Think about all of the "shaken" babies out there. Think about all of the babysitters who steal, or talk on the phone as your child takes a magnet to your television and ruins it. Think about a babysitter slapping your child. Think about the babysitter that is having sex in your house, on your couch while your child is watching "Barney?" Sure these are not everyday occurrences, in fact they will probably never happen to you. The question then becomes, if this was happening wouldn't you want to know?

If you have an infant or toddler it is not like they will tell you that these things are happening. The only way to know, to ensure that nothing is happening that should not be while you are away is to have a nanny cam to verify that. It is better to be safe then sorry.

It is not that I do not trust, it's that I feel better knowing that everything is okay. I feel better knowing that I can review a tape and know that my daughter was not shaken or slapped.

I disclose to the nanny that their is a nanny cam. If they are not comfortable with that they do not have to accept the babysitting assignment. It is fully up to them. I am not hiding anything.

With full disclosure and review of the "nanny" tapes I have never had a problem with any of my caregivers. Sure some might think I am over the top, but I think I am just playing it safe. I am just loving and caring for my daughter in the only way that I know how. I do not feel guilty and I do not feel that I am invading the privacy of the care giver for the simple fact that this is my home and I do have a right to know what happens in my house.

You don't have to agree with me. You can think I am over the top. I simply think I am being smart.

There's nothing wrong with nanny cams. Too many people have taken advantage of no one watching them. I've taken care of kids and would rather have the parents know for sure their kids were being taken care of properly and lovingly.

If I was in a situation where I had to leave my children with someone I really didn't know that well, you can bet I would have one of these somewhere in the house!

I totaly and completely agree with you, I have seen too many aweful vidoes about children and the elderly being abused, beaten, and disrespected, so I would put up a camera too. I feel that once you decide to come in my home your on my personal property, I'm not violating your privacy because it is a decision you made to enter my home, but if your not doing anything wrong, or violating anything, why would you even have a problem. Now if I was doing it for pure enjoyment that's another story, but if there are children and elderly involved that I am entrusting you with out of my presence, expect it. ....Great artilce!!!

I completely agree. There are so many crazy people these days; it is important to make sure that your children are safe. Great article :-)

I think I would use one as well if I had small children or someone watching my children.

You had better believe that if I had my children watched by someone other than a family member, I would have a nanny cam. Great article!

So they changed the title. Hmmm, did they really read the article? Caregiving is a job and being watched is just one of those thing that most jobs have anyway. Safety is indeed paramount for our little ones. Good article despite the inaccurately assigned title.

I would do it in a heartbeat. Excellent article.

I actually don't use a nanny cam, AC changed the article title on me. I would use one if my child was being watched by others, but mostly family members (mom and sister) are the babysitters so no nanny cam use there.
