I never held, I never held my course
Where e'er I went I detoured from the way
I cannot say I was led off by force
'Twas always my own strange intent to stray
Where e'er I went I detoured from the way
I cannot say I was led off by force
'Twas always my own strange intent to stray
I never got there by the quickest route
Sometimes I never came close to the goal
I chose the path my nature always sought
I chose the path that brought life to my soul
And so I never won that final prize
But then I never ran to win the race
I did not run fast but I travelled wise
Enjoying all, and all at my own pace
