I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry
A Review of the Very Funny Movie, Featuring Keving James and Adam Sandler
As I said in the introduction, I just got back from the movie theaters about thirty minutes ago, and have a clear remembrance of the events of the movie. I will start with my personal level, saying that if you haven't seen this movie yet, you must! This movie is perfect for teens and adults alike, providing humorous scenes which suit all. The basic story of the movie was enjoyable, and the acting was great! The events played out into a great ending, and with an occasional sad moment here, and there. The only thing I really had a slight problem with was the sexual referenced language used by the two lead actors. It is just not something you would expect... coming from them at least! The movie is rated PG-13, and I strongly advise that anyone under the age of 13 be accompanied by a parent or guardian and be ready for some unexpected language. Just a heads up. The review below contains spoilers. Do not read it if you do not want to be aware of the story if you have not seen it!
The Story
Adam Sandler (Chuck Levine), and Kevin James (Larry Valentine) are two firefighters who protect the city, and each other. They team when on calls to burning houses and buildings to provide immediate care and attention to the helpless in such scenarios. After the firefighters, at a call, control a burning building, the Captain sends Chuck and Larry to do a second investigation to find out what caused the fire. When in the demolished, and burnt building, Chuck (Adam Sandler) finds himself in trouble! He was walking on a weakened staircase and it collapses. He is hanging on for dear life, with his friend, Larry (Kevin James), right below him- ready to save his friend. Larry calls for immediate back up, just as Chuck falls onto Larry. They both collapse into the mess. Larry then proceeds to get up, and his friend is motion-less in the heap of junk. All of the sudden, Larry sees a big wooden frame on its way down to Chuck. He puts his own life on the line, and jumps on Chuck to protect him. They both turn out all right after spending days at the hospital. With his wife dead, Larry decides that he wants his pension changed to his kids if anything happens to them. He is informed that the only way for that to happen is by birth, death, or marriage. He then asks Chuck to be his domestic partner, and after long deliberation, agrees. Meanwhile, Larry's kids, Tori and Eric, stay at home. Eric takes the role of a girl as he wants to be a dancer, and singer. When shown pornography by Chuck, he screams in a high-pitched tone as runs away. Tory, the girl, doesn't have much of a character. Chuck and Larry go to a lawyer to try to find out how to make the government from being suspicious about their partnership. They learn the previously, two other people did something similar and received up to five years in prison. They become worried, and try to act as if their partnership is true, and they are "gay". They take a cab up to Canada, and find themselves in a wedding chapel. They are wed by a Chinese guy, and boy... is he funny! You just have to hear what he says! So, they are married and everyone looks at them differently. The other firefighters won't play basketball with Chuck, and they are being investigated by the government periodically. When they are taken to court for a hearing, the opposing lawyer asks the two to kiss, to prove they are truly in love. Just as they are going to, the Captain of the fire department comes forward and tells everyone that They were faking the marriage, and they just wanted the benefits. The judge orders for Chuck, Larry, AND the Captain to be arrested for frauding, and holding illegal information from the government. Just as they were ready to be cuffed, and shipped out, the entire fire department comes forward that they knew about that fraud- even though they didn't. They were all arrested, and placed in jail. Shortly after when in jail, Larry sees a petition mob outside the building. The mob opts for the release of the cities firefighters, and they are let go with no penalties... under TWO conditions! Watch the movie for those conditions, and for a lot more that I intentionally left out :)
This is probably one of the best movies I have seen, and will surely be buying it when it comes out on DVD!
