Yesterday I passed a cemetery on the way to church. As is customary, this particular site always has a magnificent display of flags during the week leading to Memorial Day. I silently saluted those who had passed on. Seeing those flags majestically waving in the wind stirred up emotions of thankfulness for my freedom. I don't take it lightly.
That evening I relaxed while enjoying local Memorial Day programming on KCPT with the Kansas City Philharmonic Orchestra and special guests. I was riveted to their performance. I then concluded this patriotic feeling with the Memorial Day celebration outside the Capitol with star-studded entertainers paying a much-deserved tribute to our military heroes and sheroes. I am so proud to be an American.
A lesser known holiday to many is Flag Day. It will be celebrated at the Fort Osage National Historic Landmark and Education Center in Sibley, MO on June 11. The actual date for Flag Day is June 14.
