I was laying in bed one night reading Stephen King's book "Gerald's Game." I suddenly started laughing so hard I woke my husband up. He looked at me quizzically and said, "I thought you were reading Stephen King? You know he is a horror writer, right?" The funny passage I had just read still had me giggling, so all I could do was nod as my husband shook his head in amusement and rolled back over.
Stephen King is a Horror Writer with a Sense of Humor
My husband got used to me giggling as I read Stephen King's books late into the night. Sometimes I would even read him a particularly funny blurb from the story. Though he was not a fan of reading Stephen King's books, he did enjoy the humor that King writes with at times. The next sentence in one of his novels can be so off the wall that it takes you by surprise and you can't help but chuckle.
King lives in Maine and sometimes Florida with his wife, Tabitha. He grew up in Maine and even wrote for the school newspaper during his sophomore year. He sold his first short story called "The Glass Floor" to Startling Mystery Stories in 1967.
One short story hardly pays the bills, so King taught a high school English class during the day and wrote short stories and novels at night. Double Day Books agreed to publish "Carrie" in 1973 and that was the end of King's teaching career, as far as high school went. "Carrie" was published in 1974, followed quickly by "The Shining" and "The Stand."
"Christine" is My Favorite Stephen King Novel
Most people will remember the movie "Christine" but some do not realize it is also a book by Stephen King. Several of his books have gone on to become movies and he usually makes some kind of cameo appearance in the movie. You have to watch close sometimes, and the character may be as strange or quirky as some of the funny parts of his novels.
I am not sure why "Christine" is my favorite book, or movie. I have seen the movie probably about a hundred times, because it was also one of my son's favorites. We can both nearly recite the entire book or movie dialogue from memory. Check out some of Stephen King's books...I'll bet you'll be scared and laugh, all within seconds. That is what makes him a great writer and my favorite novelist.

Post a CommentYou are so brave - I only read Stephen King in the dayllight.
I went through the Steven King phase, reading all his books. I finally had to make room for others so I sold them all at a yard sale. I liked the "The Stand" the best.
Great article!
Christine was mine.
I like him, too, although i haven't read a whole lot of his stuff. Of what I have read, Needful Things is my favorite.
Oh, wow, your a King-freak! Me, too. My favorite book is the "The Stand," in fact, I think it's SO good (the long version, mind you) that it should have won a Pulitzer. I did love Christine, also, however, and I know what you mean by his humor. I, too, have giggled at times reading his stuff. I just finished a month or so ago his latest collection of novellas and short stories. Here's a high five!
